When to seek medical help

If you suspect you have discoid eczema, it's a good idea to consult a pharmacist or your GP, who can suggest appropriate treatments. It's also important to seek medical help if you think your skin might be infected, as you may require an antibiotic cream or, in more serious situations, oral antibiotics in tablet or capsule form. Typically, a GP can diagnose the condition by simply examining the affected skin. In certain instances, they might ask additional questions or conduct tests to exclude other possible conditions. If there's uncertainty about the diagnosis or if a patch test is needed, your GP may refer you to a dermatologist, a specialist in skin disorders.
