About Professor Loïc Lang-Lazdunski
Professor Loïc Lang-Lazdunski is a highly renowned and reputable consultant thoracic surgeon who specialises in pleural mesothelioma, lung cancer, thymoma, pleural effusion, miminally invasive thoracic surgery, and videothoracoscopy. He graduated from Xavier Bichat Medical School in Paris in 1991, completing his training in both general and cardiothoracic surgery in the city. He earned his MD in 1996, followed by a PhD in experimental surgery in 2000. He gained research experience as a fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, and undertook additional specialist training in thoracic surgical oncology at several leading institutions, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and Methodist Hospital–Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. In 1998, he was appointed assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Paris University and worked as a consultant in a major Paris university hospital until late 2002. In 2003, he joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon. He was promoted to reader in thoracic surgery in 2011 and became professor of thoracic surgery at King’s College London in 2012, where he was awarded a personal chair in mesothelioma. Professor Lang-Lazdunski has a strong focus on malignant pleural mesothelioma, lung cancer, thymic tumors, and other thoracic cancers. After his appointment in London, he led the pleural mesothelioma program at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital—one of Europe’s busiest centers for this disease. He has also played a key role in establishing or enhancing mesothelioma programs at leading institutions across Europe and North America. He actively participates in both clinical and laboratory research related to mesothelioma, lung cancer, and other thoracic malignancies. He has served as an investigator or principal investigator in numerous significant clinical trials involving mesothelioma, lung cancer, and thymic tumours. Professor Lang-Lazdunski has authored chapters in several surgical textbooks and published over 120 peer-reviewed scientific articles. He has presented his research widely at international conferences. A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, he was a member of the UK National Cancer Research Institute from 2007 to 2014. He has also mentored and trained more than 30 cardiothoracic surgeons from around the world. He has more than 30 years of experience in Europe and North America. He also has four years of experience as an active military surgeon and reservist.
