About Professor Karin Hellner
Professor Karin Hellner is a well-respected and highly-accomplished consultant gynaecologist in London and Oxford who specialises in colposcopy, human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cytology alongside abnormal smear tests and dyskaryosis. She privately practises at 132 Harley Street and GenesisCare Oxford and her NHS base is Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Professor Hellner has an impressive educational history, with an MD and PhD from the Charité - Medical Faculty at Humboldt-University of Berlin in Germany Humboldt-University of Berlin. She went on to split her specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology between the Charité in Berlin and Oxford. She also spent four years as a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School/Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, USA. Here she worked on the molecular mechanisms of how HPV causes cancers and how to treat them. Professor Hellner, who also gives advice on HPV vaccination, vaginal and cervical diseases, is also a prominent name in gynaecological education. She joined the world renowned University of Oxford as a clinical lecturer in 2011 and was appointed as a Senior Fellow in Women's Health at the Nuffield Department of Reproductive & Women's Health in 2017. Professor Hellner leads an HPV research group at the University of Oxford which is focussed on development and trials of novel immunotherapies for HPV and cervical dysplasia. Her work has been featured in various peer-reviewed journals. She is an expert reviewer for leading UK charity Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, and other media content, a board member of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) and an accredited colposcopy trainer. Professor Hellner is also a member of the International Papillomavirus Society.
