About Mr Iain Packham

Mr Iain Packham is an experienced consultant in trauma and orthopaedic surgery whose specialist interest is the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the shoulder. He provides both non-surgical and surgical management tailored to individual patient needs. He practises at Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital. His NHS practice is at North Bristol NHS Trust, the regional Major Trauma Centre, where he manages general trauma, as well specialist and complex shoulder/upper limb injuries. His NHS elective shoulder practice is provided through the Avon Orthopaedic Centre/Bristol Surgical Centre. Mr Packham graduated from University of Nottingham before completing his surgical training in the London region. He has advanced fellowship training at the Cape Shoulder Institute, Cape Town, South Africa and the Australian Institute of Musculoskeletal Surgery, Sydney, Australia. During these fellowships, he developed specialist expertise in the arthroscopic management of sports injuries and complex shoulder reconstruction. His research interests include shoulder instability and dislocation, rotator cuff repair, clavicle and humeral fractures, acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) injuries, and shoulder replacement surgery. Mr Packham is also strongly committed to patient safety and previously chaired the Clinical Risk Committee at North Bristol NHS Trust. He has a particular interest in Orthopaedic surgical training and is an educational and clinical supervisor for Orthopaedic Specialist Registrars. He has previously been the Postgraduate Tutor for Trauma and Orthopaedics in Bristol and is the lead for the Bristol Shoulder and Upper Limb fellowship programme.
