About Ms Deepika Akolekar
Miss Deepika Akolekar is an oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeon at 108 Harley Street. She specialises in management of both benign breast diseases and breast cancer, breast conservation, breast lumps, breast pain, nipple discharge, fat transfer, and evaluating family history of breast cancer. Miss Akolekar qualified from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in Indore, India, in 1994 and undertook higher surgical training in the South-East Scotland rotation, gaining experience at the Edinburgh Breast Unit at the Western General Hospital. Her training continued in East London and Kent, and upon completion she undertook the National Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Fellowship at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guilford and Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead. She did a period of research at the University of Edinburgh, which was awarded with an MD. After honing her skills as a visiting surgeon of the Specialist Breast Unit in Paris, she was appointed consultant in 2015. As the Chair of Trustees for Breast Cancer Kent Charity, Miss Akolekar actively participates in fund raising and education programmes for increasing breast cancer awareness. In addition to her practice, Miss Akolekar has presented her research at national and international meetings, and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. She is currently the specialty tutor for General Surgery where she supports trainee surgeons.
