Broken or bruised ribs
Bruised or fractured ribs can be extremely uncomfortable, but they often heal on their own. These injuries typically result from a fall, a direct impact to the chest, or intense coughing. Unlike other bones, ribs cannot be easily splinted or immobilised, so they are generally allowed to heal naturally. Most bruised or broken ribs will improve on their own within 2 to 6 weeks.
