About Dr Timothy Wang

Dr Timothy Wang is a consultant in clinical biochemistry in Guildford who specialises in kidney stones, kidney disorders, metabolic syndromes, and managment of familial hypercholesteorlaemia and raised lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)), alongside lipid disorders, cholesterol, lipidology, hypercholesterolaemia and high triglycerides. He privately practises at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital and has significant NHS experience, previously working as a lead clinician and consultant in clinical biochemistry. His clinical work focuses on the investigation and management of complex biochemical and metabolic conditions, especially those relating to cholesterol, lipids and cardiovascular risk. Dr Wang studied medicine at the University of Sheffield, qualifying with an MB ChB in 1983. He went on to complete a PhD at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, in 1996, where his research focused on cholesterol metabolism. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) in 1998 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2017. Following postgraduate training, he was appointed consultant at Royal Surrey County Hospital and then at Frimley Park Hospital. Here he has played a key role in developing and leading clinical biochemistry services. As specialty lead for the clinical biochemistry laboratory services at Royal Surrey County Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital, and director of the Cardiovascular Risk Factor Supra-regional Assay Service at Surrey, his work included the biochemical assessment and monitoring of patients with lipid disorders, familial hypercholesterolaemia, metabolic syndrome and calcium metabolism abnormalities contributing to kidney stone disease. He continues to takes a comprehensive approach to cardiovascular risk assessment, supporting both primary and secondary prevention strategies through detailed laboratory evaluation and interpretation. Dr Wang has held esteemed positions outside of his clinical practice, and was visiting senior fellow in metabolic, endocrine and nutritional medicine at the University of Surrey. Also, he was a committee member of the Steering Group for the National Audit of the Management of Familial Hypercholesterolaemia at the Clinical Effectiveness and Evaluation Unit of the Royal College of Physicians in London, and a steering group member of the Hampshire Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Cascade service. Dr Wang is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Pathologists and the Association for Clinical Biochemistry. He has co-authored over 30 publications and remains engaged in local and multi-centre research projects, contributing to ongoing developments in lipidology, kidney biochemistry and metabolic health.
