About Professor (Thomas) Duncan Tennent

Professor Duncan Tennent is a distinguished orthopaedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience in shoulder and elbow surgery. His clinical work focuses on the treatment of shoulder and elbow injuries, with a particular interest in arthroscopic surgery and complex reconstructions following trauma. He graduated in 1992 from St Bartholomew’s Hospital and completed his training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, followed by a prestigious fellowship in arthroscopic surgery in Virginia, USA. In 2003, he was appointed consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery at St George’s Hospital in London, and became a professor in 2018. Prof. Tennent holds multiple patents and has developed several innovative techniques. The patented “Tightrope” procedure for acromioclavicular joint reconstruction is performed over 10,00 times a year worldwide. He combines his clinical practice at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital with his academic and educational work, delivering lectures both nationally and internationally. He is the author of over 100 scientific publications as well as books and book chapters Professor Tennent has also held key roles in medical education, including serving as Director of the SWLEOC Orthopaedic Education Centreas a member of the Surgical Advisory Committee and as an examiner for the FRCS (Orth). He is an active member of renowned professional organisations such as the British Shoulder & Elbow Society, the British Orthopaedic Association, The European Shoulder & Elbow Society and the Arthroscopy Association of North America solidifying his status as a leading figure in his speciality. Currently combines his clinical practice at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital and also offers clinic at Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon.
