About Mr Tanvir Khan

Mr Tanvir Khan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist focus on diagnosing and treating knee-related injuries and conditions. His NHS practice is based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where he manages a comprehensive range of knee pathologies, including complex tertiary referral cases. He practices privately at RNOH Stanmore and RNOH Bolsover Street Outpatient Assessment Centre. He completed his medical degree at King’s College London School of Medicine, where he also earned an intercalated BSc (Hons) in Anatomy. After his core surgical training, Mr Khan secured a highly competitive NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Nottingham, where he undertook higher specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. During this time, he was awarded a prestigious PhD research fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons and the National Joint Registry—granted to just one trainee annually—to investigate outcomes following hip and knee replacement surgery. He completed his PhD at the University of Nottingham in 2019. Mr Khan has undertaken dual subspecialty fellowships in knee surgery at two renowned institutions: the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford and Imperial College Healthcare in London. Before joining the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, he held substantive consultant roles at Oxford University Hospitals and Northampton General Hospital. He has an extensive research portfolio, with numerous high-impact publications, over 30 international conference presentations, and several book chapters. Mr Khan is also a peer reviewer for The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (American) and BMJ Open. Committed to surgical education, he has served as lead consultant for registrar and post-CCT fellow training in Oxford and regularly teaches on postgraduate orthopaedic courses.
