Dr Tamara Ventura Wurman is a consultant psychiatrist and medical psychotherapist in London who specialises in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, alongside post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), postpartum depression, psychosis, medically unexplained symptoms, and personality disorders. She practises at the London Psychiatry Clinic and is among the small number of psychiatrists in the UK recognised by the General Medical Council as a specialist in both general adult psychiatry and medical psychotherapy. She also holds GMC endorsement in liaison psychiatry and has extensive experience in perinatal mental health. Dr Ventura Wurman offers personalised care tailored to each individual's needs and symptoms, combining biological, psychological and social approaches. Her approach is thoughtful and person-centred, with an emphasis on forming a deep understanding of each patient’s history, relationships, and personal meaning, rather than focusing solely on diagnostic labels. She has particular expertise in working with complex and co-occurring conditions, especially where previous treatment has been ineffective or where symptoms do not clearly fall under a specific diagnosis. Her dual training in psychiatry and psychotherapy enables her to deliver both medication and talking therapies when appropriate, and she takes a careful, informed and evidence-based approach to prescribing. She draws on her broad training in multiple evidence-based psychotherapies, including psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dynamic interpersonal therapy (DIT), mentalisation-based therapy (MBT), cognitive analytical therapy (CAT), and systemic/family therapy. She is also able to recommend and oversee other specialist treatments as needed, working collaboratively with other clinicians and psychotherapists. Dr Ventura Wurman has a strong academic background, with a PhD and MSc in Psychoanalysis from University College London (UCL), and currently holds the role of honorary research associate at UCL. She is also a tutor at the Anna Freud Centre. She trained as a medical doctor and psychiatrist at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where she graduated with the highest distinction, and has since gone on to complete further postgraduate training in the UK, including psychoanalytic psychotherapy (candidate) training at the Tavistock Clinic. She has authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in the field of psychotherapy and psychiatry, and was awarded the Alexander Mezey Prize by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Her practice is grounded in a belief in the value of careful listening, emotional containment and holistic care, helping patients to understand the root causes of their difficulties and work towards meaningful and lasting change.
