About Dr Swapna Mandal

Dr Swapna Mandal qualified in medicine at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, and after completing her medical rotation, she specialised in respiratory medicine, finishing her postgraduate training in London. Following a period of research, she earned a PhD from King’s College London for her work on ventilatory failure, and has since presented at international conferences and published in leading peer-reviewed journals, focusing on novel diagnostics and management of sleep disordered breathing. Dr Mandal is now and Associate Professor at University College London and the Lead Consultant Physician in Sleep and Ventilation at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, where she focuses on managing sleep-disordered breathing and cares for patients with complex needs, including those with progressive neurological disorders and ventilatory failure. She has been involved in developing international guidelines for bronchoscopy with the British Thoracic Society and leads the multidisciplinary complex unexplained breathlessness service. Dr. Mandal also managed an acute post-COVID clinic and has established a joint respiratory and palliative advanced care clinic for patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
