About Mr Sultan Qasim

Mr Sultan Qasim is a highly experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle conditions. His expertise covers a wide range of disorders, including forefoot deformities such as bunions and toe misalignment, midfoot and hindfoot arthritis, heel pain, and sports-related injuries. He also has extensive experience in advanced ankle procedures, including ankle replacement and arthroscopic fusion surgery. His approach combines cutting-edge surgical techniques with a strong focus on patient-centred care. Mr Qasim completed his orthopaedic training in the East Midlands and pursued a prestigious foot and ankle fellowship at the internationally renowned Wrightington Hospital. Since 2017, he has been a Consultant at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals, working across both the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital. He serves as the Clinical Lead for Orthopaedic Trauma at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, as well as the Orthopaedic Regional Lead for Diabetic Foot Conditions, particularly Charcot Arthropathy. Additionally, he leads the tertiary referral service for complex neurological foot and ankle deformities at Freeman Hospital. Beyond his clinical practice, Mr Qasim is deeply involved in education and research. He is a faculty member for national orthopaedic training courses and supervises medical students at Newcastle University. His research focuses on total ankle replacements, diabetic foot conditions, and forefoot disorders, and he has led multiple national multi-centre trials, including the AIR (Ankle Injury Rehabilitation) and FAME (Fractured Ankle Management Evaluation) studies. His extensive academic contributions include numerous publications and presentations on foot and ankle surgery, further reinforcing his reputation as a leading expert in the field.
