About Mr Sidath Wijetilleka
Mr Sidath Wijetilleka is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon based at Sana Private Health in Swansea. He is also the lead Vitreoretinal Consultant for the NHS at Singleton Hospital. His clinical specialities are cataract surgery, Premium lens exchange surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, macular holes, and epiretinal membrane surgery as well as YAG Laser treatments. As an expert in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery he often deals with complex cataract cases which other consultants refer to him across the region. Mr Wijetilleka qualified with distinction from the University College London in 2010 and was awarded the Sir Thomas Lewis prize. He gained experience working across London before focusing on ophthalmology. He completed his ophthalmic training in South Wales over seven years before undertaking an advanced medical training fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at St James’ Hospital in Leeds. Mr Wijetilleka has an active interest in the utilisation of premium lenses in cataract surgery bespoke to the need of the patient. Mr Wijetilleka has an active research interest in the management of retinal conditions such as macular holes and epiretinal membranes. In addition to his clinical practice, he has been published in and reviews for various international journals and has contributed to academic literature regarding vitreoretinal surgery. He is an honorary clinical lecturer at Swansea University, an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and regularly lectures to optometrists and general practitioners, showcasing his passion for medical education.
