About Mr Sanjeev Anand
Mr Sanjeev Anand is a consultant orthopaedic knee surgeon based in Leeds, who specialises in knee arthroscopy, joint replacements and paediatric knee surgery, alongside cartilage repair, ACL reconstruction and knee injection therapy. He privately practises at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital, while his NHS base is Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where he treats a wide range of knee conditions including cartilage damage, ligament injuries, osteoarthritis and complex knee reconstructions. Mr Anand is often referred complex cases from other hospitals across the region. His approach focuses on preserving the joint where possible, using techniques such as arthroscopic meniscal repair and cartilage restoration. When joint preservation is no longer feasible, he offers a range of knee replacement options tailored to the patient's condition and activity level. He completed his medical degree at the University of Delhi in 1991 before going on to train in orthopaedics in London, Manchester and Leeds. He later undertook advanced fellowship training in arthroplasty and sports injury surgery in Australia. Mr Anand holds multiple postgraduate qualifications, including an MS in Orthopaedics, DNB (Orth), FRCSI and FRCS (TrOrth), a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine, and a PG Certificate in Medical Education. Mr Anand plays a key role in surgical education and skills development. He is a lead trainer for arthroscopy workshops and regularly trains junior surgeons in the UK and abroad. He has served as Academic Secretary for the British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association (BOSTAA) and is currently President Elect of the British Indian Orthopaedic Society (BIOS). He is also a founding member and Executive Director of the International Society for Knowledge for Surgeons on Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty (ISKSAA), and Executive Editor of the Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery. In recognition of his contributions to knee surgery, he was awarded the President’s Medal by the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) in 2023. Mr Anand also led the national working group that developed UK guidelines on ACL reconstruction and contributed to guidelines on arthroscopic knee surgery and patellofemoral problems. Mr Anand runs weekly acute knee injury clinics at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment, particularly for sports injuries that may otherwise be overlooked. He also offers arthroscopic hip surgery for selected conditions such as groin pain and trochanteric bursitis.
