About Professor Rohan A. Rajan

Professor Rohan Rajan is a distinguished Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Derby who specialises in adult foot and ankle, as well as paediatric orthopaedics. His areas of expertise include foot pain and deformities, foot cosmesis, bunions, arthritis, nail deformities, ankle pain, deformities and ligament instability, and sports injuries. Professor Rajan, who treats both adult and paediatric patients, consults privately at the Nuffield Health Derby Hospital and at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (Private Suite). With over 35 years’ experience, he also has his adult and children’s NHS practice at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, where he is the lead clinician at the gait laboratory at the Royal Derby Hospital and a senior paediatric orthopaedic consultant. Professor Rajan established the Derby Children’s One-Stop Clubfoot Clinic in 2006 and has developed a nationally recognised gait laboratory for the investigation of gait, especially for children with cerebral palsy and many other neurological conditions, which receives referrals from all over the Midlands. Professor Rajan founded the Neverest Orthopaedic Foundation with Dame Joanna Lumley in 2013, which is a UK registered charity. This is a 20-year initiative to teach surgeons and treat children with deformities in Nepal. In addition, the foundation has also built and supports a spinal rehabilitation unit, a special needs school, an English-speaking school, and an orphanage. Professor Rajan completed his MBBS at the University of London in 1990 and obtained his FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons (England), followed by an MSc, a PhD, and the esteemed FRCS in Trauma and Orthopaedics from the Royal College of Surgeons (England). Notably, Professor Rajan completed the Ilizarov Fellowship in Kurgan, Russia, in 2004, the Barouk Foot and Ankle Fellowship in Bordeaux, France, in 2004, the Ponseti Fellowship in Iowa in 2004, and the prestigious UK National Paediatric Limb Reconstruction Fellowship at Sheffield Children’s Hospital in 2005. Beyond his clinical practice, Professor Rajan is a dedicated educator. He has held teaching positions as a Professor of Biomechanics and Gait at the University of Derby since 2013 and as a Professor of Orthopaedics at the National University of Malaysia since 2011. Moreover, he is also a reviewer for high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Children’s Orthopaedics, The Foot, Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons, Foot and Ankle Surgery, and the Malaysian Orthopaedic Journal. Professor Rajan is widely published. Professor Rajan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (England), the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Society of Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery, the British Foot and Ankle Society, the British Limb Reconstruction Society, and the Learned Sharrard Society. He is also a member of the British Medical Association and the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association.
