About Mr Raj Mukherjee
Mr Raj Mukherjee is an expert consultant ophthalmologist based in Leeds who specialises in retinal disorders, such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy alongside glaucoma, dry eye and eyelid lumps. He is also an expert in cataract surgery and associated procedures, such as YAG Laser Capsulotomy. He has a particular interest in non-scarring laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy and genetic eye conditions. Mr Mukherjee graduated from the University of Calcutta in India with a master's degree in ophthalmic surgery. After moving to the UK, Mr Mukherjee trained as a fellow in medical retina and inherited eye disease at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London from where he obtained wide knowledge and expertise in all retinal disorders. After training there for four years, he spent another four years training at Oxford John Radcliffe Hospital both as a registrar and as a fellow. Since 2016, he has held an NHS consultant position at St James’s University Hospital and works privately at Spire Leeds Hospital and Living Care (Thorpe Park Clinic). He holds professional memberships at the UK Eye Genetics Group, the European Society of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and Yorkshire Retina Society. He is also Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Leeds.
