About Dr Nicolò Battisti

Dr Nicolò Battisti is a consultant medical oncologist in central London, who specialises in breast oncology, geriatric oncology and management of cancer in older adults, alongside biological therapy, breast chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy and neoadjuvant systemic therapy. He privately practises at the Breast Unit at The Royal Marsden Private Care and The Royal Marsden Private Care - Specialist Cancer Care Sutton, while his NHS base is The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where he also serves as Clinical Lead of the Senior Adult Oncology Programme. Dr Battisti, who has a strong focus on comprehensive geriatric assessment, prediction of treatment-related toxicity, quality-of-life outcomes and addressing inequalities in cancer care, graduated in Medicine from the University of Milan in 2009. He completed his specialist training in medical oncology at the University of Milan and the National Cancer Institute of Milan in 2015. During his training, he spent time at the Senior Adult Oncology Program at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, working with leading experts in geriatric oncology. In 2022, he was awarded an MD (Res) from The Institute of Cancer Research, London, with a thesis focused on the management of common malignancies in older adults. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and has been on the UK General Medical Council Specialist Register for Medical Oncology since 2016. He also holds Italian board certification in medical oncology and has completed the European Society for Medical Oncology Leaders Generation Programme, as well as a certificate in Health Economics and Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Internationally recognised for his academic and organisational leadership, Dr Battisti is past President of the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) and currently serves as Treasurer of the European Cancer Organisation. He has held key roles within multiple international organisations, including the Executive Committee of the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA), the Older Adult Committee and Breast Cancer Group Steering Committee of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), and the Clinical Implementation Core of the Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG). He's also a member of the Oncology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine and the UK Breast Cancer Group, and contributes to national initiatives such as the National Audit of Breast Cancer in Older Patients. Dr Battisti has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in the fields of breast oncology, geriatric oncology and cancer care disparities. His research has been published in leading journals including the European Journal of Cancer, Cancer Treatment Reviews and the Journal of Clinical Oncology, with a focus on systemic therapy in older adults, gene expression profiling, targeted therapies and quality-of-life outcomes. His work has been recognised with several prestigious awards, including the Arti Hurria Award at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, the Dario Cova Award from the Italian Group of Geriatric Oncology, an HSJ Award for improving care for older people, the Royal Marsden Pioneering Change Award and the LangBuisson Rising Star Award. Dr Battisti combines academic excellence with a compassionate, patient-centred approach, delivering personalised cancer care tailored to each individual’s clinical needs, overall health and treatment goals.
