About Mr Murthy Kusuma
Mr Murthy Kusuma is a highly accomplished consultant urologist and robotic surgeon at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford, one of the highest-volume centres for robotic prostatectomy in the South of England. With experience in over 1,000 robotic procedures, including more than 500 robotic prostatectomies, Mr Kusuma is widely recognised for his expertise in prostate and bladder cancer surgery and advanced robotic urological reconstruction, including nerve-sparing and day-case prostatectomy, robotic cystectomy, diverticulectomy, and ureteric reimplantation. He is one of the lead robotic surgeons for the subregional bladder cancer network, providing robotic cystectomy and urinary diversion for patients across the South East of England. In addition, he is proficient in a broad range of core urological and endourological procedures, offering comprehensive, patient-centred care across the full spectrum of urology. His private practice covers: · Robotic surgery for prostate and bladder cancer · PSA testing and prostate health assessment · Haematuria (blood in urine) evaluation · Urinary tract infection (UTI) management · Men’s sexual health, including erectile and ejaculatory disorders · Penoscrotal conditions, including testicular and scrotal disorders An active academic and educator, Mr Kusuma has served as faculty for the BAUS Introduction to Robotics Course, the National Urology Bootcamp (2023–25), and the ST3 National Urology Interview Panel, providing hands-on training and mentorship to national trainees. His Bootcamp teaching focuses on the principles of urological reconstruction, including ideal conduit formation and emergency management of ureteric injuries, delivered to national ST3-level urology trainees. He has chaired sessions at the BAUS Annual Conferences (2024–25) and was appointed Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey School of Medicine in 2024, contributing to undergraduate teaching, mentorship, and curriculum development. Mr Kusuma has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications, cited in more than 600 journals and textbooks. His academic contributions include involvement in the EAU NMIBC guidelines and the EAU NMIBC Risk Calculator App, which have influenced global practice in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer management. His ongoing research explores patient satisfaction and decision regret following robotic prostatectomy, promoting shared decision-making and quality-of-life improvement in prostate cancer care. He serves as Principal Investigator for the MASTERY and GRACE trials and has received both the NIHR Green Shoots Award and the NIHR Research Support Award, recognising his contributions to clinical research and national trial delivery. In 2023, Mr Kusuma completed a Leadership and Management Programme at the Surrey Business School, applying these principles to service development, multidisciplinary team leadership, and the strategic expansion of the robotic surgery programme. He also mentors ERUS robotic fellows and SAS doctors on the CESR pathway, supporting their progression toward consultant roles.
