About Dr Matthew Williams

Dr Matt Williams is a consultant clinical oncologist specialising in the treatment of adult brain tumours. He has extensive clinical experience in the use of radiotherapy (including IMRT, VMAT and stereotactic radiotherapy) and systemic therapy. He has led the introduction of multiple novel treatments for brain tumour patients, including leading the use of Optune in the UK, and he co-leads the UK Optune Support group. He also has strong links with two German immunotherapy groups (CEGAT and IOZK) and was a co-author on the recent paper reporting the relationship between the use of the CEGAT vaccine and survival in patients with GBM. He holds a PhD in Computer Science, and leads the Computational Oncology Group at Imperial College London, where he is an Honorary Senior Fellow. As part of this, he has led multiple trials and projects, including the BrainWear, BrainApp and INDIGO trials and the GlioCova project. This included the first ever work looking at treatment of GBM patients and outcomes at a national level. He teaches on the ESTRO course on Evidence-based Radiation Oncology, and previously led the ICR MSc module on neuro-oncology. He is also the current President of the British Radio-Surgery Society. Patients who are seeking a private consultation are asked to make contact via email in the first instance, emailing both Dr Williams and his secretary by making an enquiry through the appointment service on the right-hand side. In order to offer a consultation, Dr Williams will normally need some background information (imaging and pathology) in order to offer a useful consultation. Patients who would like more advice and information on Optune are encouraged to use the UK Optune Support website, and join one of the monthly “Open Information Sessions”. Starting Optune requires a consultation and referral, but treatment is delivered at home.
