About Professor Margaret Johnson

Professor Margaret Johnson is a senior consultant physician in thoracic medicine and the HIV research director at the Royal Free Hospital. Professor Johnson is one of the UK’s leading consultants in respiratory medicine and currently sees patients at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital and at Royal Free Hospital. Her main expertise is in asthma, breathlessness, COPD, long Covid, interstitial lung disease, occupational lung disease, pneumonia, lung cancer, tuberculosis and respiratory infections (HIV and respiratory infections in the immunocompromised). She is the clinical lead for respiratory diseases at St John's and St Elizabeth's Hospital and she is the present clinical director of the North Thames Clinical Research Network (CRN) for the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). She was the immediate Academic Vice President at the Royal College of Physicians, London. Professor Johnson qualified in medicine at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine and was awarded an MD from London University. Subsequently, she was awarded a personal chair in medicine at University College. Professor Johnson was previously the chairman of the British HIV Association and the medical director at the Royal Free London Foundation Trust. She has published more than 500 articles in peer-reviewed journals on both respiratory and HIV topics.
