About Dr Marcus Pittman
Dr Marcus Pittman is a highly experienced consultant physician specialising in respiratory, sleep and general medicine, with over two decades of clinical expertise. He qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in the UK and went on to complete his postgraduate medical training in London and the East of England. As part of this training, he undertook three years as a research fellow in Cambridge, where he developed a strong academic foundation alongside his clinical work. Dr Pittman has been practising as a consultant since 2014 and currently sees patients at Spire Wellesley Hospital in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, The One Clinic in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, and King’s College Hospital, London. At King’s College Hospital, he also holds the senior role of Co-Lead for Clinical Governance. Throughout his career, Dr Pittman has built extensive experience and has successfully treated many thousands of patients. Dr Pittman’s clinical practice focuses on the assessment and management of a wide range of respiratory and sleep-related conditions. He regularly treats patients with symptoms such as snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia, chronic cough, breathlessness, wheeze and recurrent chest infections. In addition, he has significant expertise in managing long-term and complex conditions, including sleep apnoea, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He is experienced in both diagnosis and ongoing management, ensuring care is tailored to each patient’s individual needs. As part of his work, Dr Pittman performs and interprets a broad range of diagnostic and monitoring investigations, including home sleep monitoring, lung function tests and other respiratory assessments, enabling accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning. Alongside his busy clinical practice, Dr Pittman is actively involved in medical education and research. He teaches undergraduate medical students at King’s College London and plays an important role in supervising doctors undertaking postgraduate training. He is committed to supporting the development of future clinicians and maintaining high standards of education within the NHS. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr Pittman has undertaken formal leadership training at Keele University and has held a number of senior leadership roles, including clinical lead and clinical director. These roles reflect his involvement in service development, quality improvement and clinical governance, as well as his commitment to delivering safe, effective and patient-centred care. Dr Pittman’s contributions to clinical practice, education and leadership have been widely recognised. He has received several professional accolades, including a “Top Teacher” award in 2016 in recognition of his dedication to medical education. In 2019, he was also highly commended at the British Medical Journal Awards, highlighting his impact within the wider medical community. Through his combined expertise in respiratory and sleep medicine, commitment to education and leadership experience, Dr Pittman continues to provide high-quality care to patients while contributing to the advancement of clinical standards and medical training.
