About Dr Lakshmi Ratnam

Dr Lakshmi Ratnam is a consultant diagnostic and interventional radiologist based in London, specialising in ultrasound, fibroids and vascular malformations, alongside CT scans (CAT), treatment of pelvic congestion syndrome and biopsies. She practices at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Portland Place Outpatient Centre, while her NHS base is St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Her clinical expertise includes a wide range of subspecialties, such as biliary and salivary gland disease, uterine artery embolisation, angiograms, angioplasty, feeding tube insertion, embolisation procedures and vascular access procedures. Dr Ratnam is proficient in advanced interventional techniques, including nephrostomy, ureteric stent placement, venography, IVC filter placement and peripheral angioplasty. She is particularly experienced in using imaging technologies for both diagnostics and therapeutic interventions, ensuring the highest level of care for her patients. Dr Ratnam is currently the chair of the British Society of Interventional Radiology Research committee, a member of the Royal College of Radiologists Academic Committee, and a member of the CIRSE (Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe) Radiation Protection Subcommittee. She has served as the Head of Department for the Department of Radiology at St George's Hospital, deputy head of department, and clinical governance lead, as well as co-chair of the Hospital Thrombosis Group. She was previously the Regional Educational Adviser for South Thames for the RCR and a member of the London IR Faculty Group. Within the Interventional Radiology community, she has also been a member of the IR Subcommittee for the ECR and chair of the Scientific Programme committee for the BSIR. An active contributor to academic radiology, Dr Ratnam serves on the editorial board of CVIRendovascular, and the Vascular and Endovascular review journals as well as a reviewer for CVIR, BMJ, JVIR, European Radiology and Clinical Radiology journals. She frequently lectures at local, national, and international interventional radiology conferences. Her memberships include the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Radiologists, British Society of Interventional Radiology, British Society of Paediatric Interventional Radiology and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe.
