About Mr Julian Leong

Mr Julian Leong is an esteemed consultant spinal surgeon and honorary associate professor at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and University College London (UCL). He treats a wide range of spinal conditions in both children and adults. His research focuses on surgical technology, medical robotics, and the training and evaluation of surgical skills. Mr Leong earned his PhD from Imperial College London, where he completed a thesis titled “Hand-eye coordination in Surgery.” His doctoral work was supervised by Professor Ara Darzi, Professor Guang-Zhong Yang, and Professor Roger Emery. He undertook specialist orthopaedic training through the University College London Hospital/Middlesex rotation, gaining spinal surgery experience at institutions including Great Ormond Street Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He also completed fellowships at Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (as part of the Norman Capener Fellowship), and Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan. Given the complexity of the spinal treatments and procedures he performs, Mr Leong places great importance on clearly explaining his recommendations to patients, ensuring they fully understand their options to make informed decisions about their care. He collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to plan and support each patient’s treatment and recovery journey.
