About Mr Jonathan Cowie

Mr Jonathan Cowie is a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon in Edinburgh, who specialises in hip replacement, knee replacement and arthritis, alongside knee arthroscopy, medicolegal work and joint replacement surgery. He privately practises at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals Murrayfield and Shawfair Park, while his NHS base is NHS Fife. He also is expert in hip revision surgery, and manages a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including osteoarthritis, sports injuries, and soft tissue injuries. Mr Cowie has an BM BS from the University of Nottingham (2002) and completed his orthopaedic training in Edinburgh, where he developed a strong interest in lower limb surgery. He subsequently undertook a prestigious fellowship in hip and knee replacement in Brisbane, Australia, in 2012, where he trained under Professor Ross Crawford, a leading authority in joint replacement and robotic-assisted surgery. This further advanced his expertise in complex joint replacement procedures and modern surgical techniques. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of orthopaedic care. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Cowie contributes to medical education as an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. He has presented his research nationally and internationally and has authored several publications on orthopaedic outcomes, joint replacement, fracture management, and return to activity following surgery.
