About Professor John Skinner

Professor John Skinner is a highly respected consultant orthopaedic surgeon based in Stanmore, practising at RNOH Stanmore. He specialises in hip and knee replacement, including complex revision procedures, with particular expertise in treating arthritis and related joint conditions. His practice is dedicated to delivering the highest standard of care, routinely employing the latest evidence-based techniques such as robotic-assisted surgery and custom-made implants tailored to each patient’s needs. In addition to his clinical work, Professor Skinner is Director of Research and Innovation at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. His surgical interests span joint reconstruction as well as the treatment of bone and soft tissue tumours. He has published over 300 scientific papers and co-directs the London Implant Retrieval Centre. His research has contributed significantly to implant design and safety, and he currently chairs the Infection Control and Medical Staff Committees at RNOH. Professor Skinner plays a leading role in shaping national orthopaedic policy and education. He is President of the British Hip Society and a former President of the British Orthopaedic Association. He has served on the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and contributed to national advisory groups including NHS England’s Knee Revision Steering Group and the NICE guideline committee for joint replacement. His expertise is further recognised through his editorial work with the Bone and Joint Journal and involvement in several international orthopaedic societies.
