He undertook his specialist trauma and orthopaedic training within the Severn deanery, before completing both national and international orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal fellowship training. He is fully trained across the breadth of modern spinal surgery, enabling him to deliver comprehensive and individualised care. His clinical practice is underpinned by a patient-centred approach, with a strong emphasis on shared decision-making and patient education. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients are supported throughout assessment, treatment and recovery, and to ensure management plans reflect each patient’s goals and circumstances. Alongside his clinical work, Mr O’Callaghan is actively involved in education and research. He is the Doctors in Training lead at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and takes an active role in mentoring and training junior surgeons.
