About Professor James Harvey
Professor James Harvey is a highly experienced consultant oncoplastic and cosmetic breast surgeon based in Manchester and Cheadle, Greater Manchester. He specialises in breast cancer surgery, reconstruction, reduction and fat transfer, as well as revisional breast surgeries and augmentation. He privately practises at The Alexandra Hospital, while his NHS base is The Nightingale and 'Prevent Breast Cancer' Prevention Centre at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Professor Harvey is dual-trained in both plastic surgery and cancer surgery of the breast, allowing him to provide a comprehensive approach to both oncological and aesthetic breast procedures. His clinical expertise is dedicated exclusively to breast-related conditions, including the surgical management of breast cancer, oncoplastic and reconstructive techniques, and revisional procedures following previous surgery. His work at The Nightingale Centre, the UK’s largest breast cancer treatment unit, ensures he is at the forefront of innovation and best practices in breast surgery. Professor Harvey is involved in multiple national trials focusing on advancing breast surgery techniques and improving patient outcomes. His research includes prepectoral breast reconstruction, negative pressure dressings, new breast cancer localisation devices and long-term outcomes of acellular dermal matrix reconstruction. Professor Harvey plays an active role in education and training. He provides specialist training for trainee breast and plastic surgeons at local, national and international levels, and is FBMH MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chair at the University of Manchester. He is also a consultant for leading medical companies, including Roche, Allergan, Lifecell, Johnson & Johnson, Endomagnetics and Hologic. His contributions to the field include authoring the Oxford Handbook of Breast Disease Management and presenting at major international conferences such as the Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Cancer (ORBS) conference, the Milano Breast Conference, and the Amsterdam Breast Conference.
