About Mr Hugh Jewsbury
Mr Hugh Jewsbury is a dedicated consultant ophthalmic surgeon based in Wales, practising at Spire Cardiff Hospital, St Joseph's Hospital, Nuffield Health Cardiff Bay Hospital and Nuffield Health The Vale Hospital. He specialises in cataract surgery, strabismus (squints), neuro-ophthalmology and paediatric ophthalmology, with expertise in cataract surgery using standard, toric, multifocal and extended depth of focus lenses, strabismus surgery for adults and children, and YAG capsulotomies. Mr Jewsbury graduated from the University of Southampton in 2006, obtaining a distinction in his medical degree and a First Class Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences, before completing his general medical training in Bath. He undertook his ophthalmology training in Wales, where he was awarded Senior Trainee of the Year across all medical specialties in 2013. He then completed a world-renowned fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, specialising in neuro-ophthalmology, paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. He is actively involved in national and international research in neuro-ophthalmology and strabismus and trains specialist registrars in cataract and strabismus surgery. Mr Jewsbury is also the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Tutor at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, and an Honorary Lecturer at Cardiff University School of Medicine. He is a member of the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
