Mr Hasan Qazi
Lead urological robotic surgeon
About Mr Hasan Qazi
Mr Hasan Qazi is a consultant urologist and lead robotic surgeon in South London. He specialises in prostate cancer, benign prostate enlargement and robotic surgery in urology, alongside prostatectomy (prostate removal), holmium laser (HoLEP), prostate biopsy, hydrocele, and cystoscopy. He privately practises at Parkside Hospital, where he serves as specialty robotic surgery lead, and works as a consultant urologist at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has a subspecialist interest in prostate cancer and complex prostate surgery, with extensive experience in robotic and laparoscopic techniques. His clinical practice includes laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, MRI-ultrasound fusion prostate biopsy, prostate screening, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), Rezum treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia, and the management of a broad range of urological conditions affecting both men and women. He is a high-volume robotic surgeon, having performed over 1,200 robotic procedures, with a strong focus on achieving excellent cancer control while preserving urinary continence and sexual function. Mr Qazi completed his basic surgical training in Liverpool and obtained his doctorate in urinary bladder cancer at the University of Leicester, supported by several research grants including a British Urological Foundation research award. He completed his higher urology training in Glasgow and was the first British trainee invited to undertake a 12-month fellowship in laparoscopic and robotic surgery at University Hospital Leipzig, a world-leading centre under the supervision of Professor Jens-Uwe Stolzenburg, a pioneer of keyhole urological surgery. He was appointed consultant urologist in Glasgow in 2013, where he established laparoscopic pelvic cancer surgery and went on to develop the robotic prostatectomy programme for the West of Scotland. This involved training a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, nurses and physiotherapists to deliver a large regional service. In 2017, he moved to St George’s University Hospital, London, where he continues to play a leading role in urological cancer care. Alongside his clinical work, Mr Qazi is highly active in teaching, training and research. He is course director for the ‘Innovations in Laparoscopy’ course in Hamburg and has trained over 250 experienced urologists from across Europe. He is also the trainer for the robotic prostate surgery fellowship at St George’s, where he has supervised and accredited international fellows from Australia, India and Spain in independent robotic practice. He has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals, presented widely at international conferences, and co-authored two educational DVDs on laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques. He is the clinical lead for urology cancer at St George’s and the urology chair at RM Partners, overseeing the delivery of urological cancer services across South West London. Mr Qazi is a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons, the European Association of Urology and the American Urological Association.
