About Dr G. Sunthar Kanaganayagam

Dr G. Sunthar Kanaganayagam is a well-respected consultant cardiologist based in London, specialising in the diagnosis of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations and the treatment of coronary disease, valve disease, heart failure, and hypertension. He has extensive expertise in cardiac imaging, including CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, and transoesophageal echocardiography. Dr Kanaganayagam sees private patients at Chiswick Outpatients, The Harley Street Clinic, OneWelbeck and Syon Clinic. With over 15 years of experience, he also leads the cardiology imaging department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He has had senior management roles at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where he served as a divisional director of governance and was on the executive management board. He also pioneered a community heart failure service working closely with local GPs to serve patients. Dr Kanaganayagam holds a PhD from St Thomas’ Hospital and an MBBS from King’s College London, as well as an intercalated BSc in Pharmacology. He trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust before completing his specialist cardiology training at Imperial College Healthcare and Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. In addition to his clinical work, Dr Kanaganayagam is an honorary senior lecturer in cardiology at Imperial College London. He has published research in leading medical journals and contributes significantly in multidisciplinary teams in the management of both common and rare heart conditions.
