Dr Dushyant Sharma is a consultant in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and General Medicine, with vast experience in managing complex diabetes, all types of endocrine (hormone-related medical conditions), and general medical conditions. Dr Sharma runs specialised endocrine clinics such as the Regional Joint Pituitary and endocrine-reproductive disorders clinics. His expertise includes managing pituitary disorders (Acromegaly, Cushing's disease, prolactin issues, diabetes insipidus, growth hormone replacement), thyroid, adrenal, parathyroid (calcium disorders), osteoporosis, hormone-related fatigue and tiredness (thyroid, adrenal, metabolic factors), and endocrine-reproductive disorders such as infertility, PCOS, hypogonadism, erectile dysfunction, testosterone deficiency (testosterone replacement therapy), and women' s health, including hormone-related menstrual disorders, peri-menopausal transition, and post-menopausal management with hormonal replacement therapy (HRT). His expertise in diabetes includes managing poorly controlled and complex diabetes, diabetic kidney disease, diabetic foot disease, neuropathy, dietary and weight-related complexities, weight management (lifestyle and medications), and newer technologies and devices for monitoring. Previously, he served as a visiting professor at Hope University. His involvement in education has included being the RCP College Tutor for Royal Liverpool University Hospital, the former Speciality Trainee Teaching Lead for diabetes and endocrinology trainees at Mersey Deanery, the lead for diabetes education at the Royal Liverpool Academy, and the patron of the diabetes diploma and fellowship program through Medvarsity. Additionally, he co-founded Medexcell Education, which organised regular courses on Leadership Skills, Teaching Skills, and Critical Appraisal of medical literature to promote Evidence-Based Medicine. As Clinical Director for the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Dr Sharma has introduced many innovative transformational initiatives to enhance the department's profile, efficiency, and patient outcomes over the years. His team’s innovative twice-daily ward round and Diabetes Review and Discharge Support (DRDS) model have reduced hospital stay and readmission rates. At the same time, the creation of an in-house outpatient review hub, along with the first follow-up nurse-led clinic, has reduced waiting times, achieved excellent patient outcomes, and improved staff satisfaction. He has been an integral member of Liverpool Diabetes Partnership (LDP) to support excellent diabetes service delivery and continually endeavours to improve the support framework. Dr Sharma consistently focuses on patient welfare, safety, and satisfaction by clearly discussing current evidence-based medicine and patient preferences.
