About Mr Don Williams

Mr Don Williams is an accomplished advanced clinical practitioner in ophthalmology based in Birmingham, with 20 years of experience in eye care across both hospital and independent specialist practice. He is a registered specialist in therapeutics and medical glaucoma, with particular expertise in glaucoma, ocular surface disease and advanced ophthalmic diagnostics. He is the founder and clinical director of Edgbaston Eye Clinic, an independent specialist eye clinic dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred ophthalmic care. His clinical practice focuses especially on the assessment and management of glaucoma, dry eye disease, blepharitis, keratoconus, and general ophthalmology. He also provides advanced diagnostic imaging and specialist laser procedures, including YAG laser capsulotomy and selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). Mr Williams spent 13 years in the Hospital Eye Service, including four years at Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, where he worked within the glaucoma department. This extensive secondary care experience has contributed significantly to his advanced clinical expertise in the investigation, diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of complex ophthalmic disease. Academically, Mr Williams holds a BSc (Hons) from the Institute of Vision Science at Aston University, an M.Sc with Distinction, and an M.Sc in Ophthalmology (ACP) from the University of Plymouth. He has also undertaken extensive postgraduate training through a number of respected institutions, including Aston University, Ulster University, the University of Bradford, Cardiff University, University of Plymouth, Oxford University (AI) and currently at Southampton University (AI). In addition to his established ophthalmic training, Mr Williams is currently undertaking a third Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Southampton, reflecting a broader academic interest in the interface between artificial intelligence, clinical medicine, and the future of data-driven healthcare innovation. This further study complements his clinical work and underpins his interest in the safe, ethical and scientifically rigorous integration of emerging technologies into modern medical practice. Alongside his clinical work, Mr Williams contributes to postgraduate education as a visiting specialist lecturer at the University of Plymouth. He is recognised for his commitment to clinical excellence, professional leadership, and personalised patient care. Mr Williams also speaks French.
