About Mr Dennis Kosuge
Mr Dennis Kosuge is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery in Sawbridgeworth. He specialises in hip replacements, revision hip replacements and knee replacements, (including partial knee replacements), knee arthroscopy, and general orthopaedic trauma operations. He privately practises at Rivers Hospital in Sawbridgeworth and his NHS base is The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Harlow, where he provides comprehensive care for a wide range of elective and trauma-related orthopaedic conditions. Mr Kosuge is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, with a strong emphasis on respect, duty of candour and meticulous attention to detail. He actively collects and monitors his clinical outcomes using validated patient-reported outcome measures, enabling him to assess and continually improve the quality of care he provides. His experience in outcome assessment has been published in the British Orthopaedic Association’s Journal of Trauma & Orthopaedics and featured in an interview with Amplitude Clinical platform. Mr Kosuge completed his medical and orthopaedic training in the United Kingdom. After qualifying, he completed his early postgraduate training as a house officer at Gloucestershire Royal Infirmary, followed by a two-year basic surgical rotation at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. It was during this period that he developed a strong interest in Trauma and Orthopaedics, further strengthened by six months spent at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He subsequently undertook a year as an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellow at The Royal London Hospital before commencing higher surgical training on the prestigious North-East Thames Percivall Pott Orthopaedic Training Programme. During this time, he was primarily based at The Royal London Hospital but also trained at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and returned to The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. Throughout his higher training, he developed a subspecialist interest in lower limb arthroplasty, inspired by leading surgeons he worked alongside. On completion of his orthopaedic training, he consolidated this interest through a dedicated one-year fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty with Professor Donald Howie at The Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia. Mr Kosuge has also undertaken a number of additional prestigious international fellowships, including the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Zimmer Adult Reconstruction Hips and Knees Fellowship in Japan in 2014, an AOTrauma Fellowship in Japan in 2013, and a Tohoku University Orthopaedic Visiting Fellowship in Japan in 2010. These experiences have broadened his surgical perspective and further refined his expertise in hip and knee reconstruction. Mr Kosuge is widely published in the field of trauma and orthopaedics, with numerous peer-reviewed articles indexed on PubMed. He has authored educational articles, contributed chapters to orthopaedic textbooks popular among trainees, and regularly participates in specialty courses and congresses. He has co-authored an award-winning presentation, presented at the 86th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He strongly values patient feedback and encourages reviews through various patient feedback platforms. In recognition of consistently outstanding patient care, he was awarded the iWantGreatCare Certificate of Excellence annually from 2019 to 2025, as well as the Patient Panel Consultant Award from The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in 2024. He currently holds a full-time NHS consultant post serving the populations of West Essex and East Hertfordshire. In addition to his elective practice, he participates in the general trauma on-call rota, managing upper and lower limb musculoskeletal trauma in both adults and children.
