Mr David Elson is a leading consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in knee conditions and knee surgery. He aims to take time assessing the problem for each individual patient, in order to provide bespoke treatment options, leading to the best possible patient outcomes. Mr Elson holds private clinics at Cobalt Hospital in Silverlink, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Mr Elson attends to the needs of adult patients as well as children above the age of 12. Mr Elson will explore the possibility of biological alternatives to knee replacement. This joint preserving or biological knee surgery may include knee arthroscopy; meniscal surgery (such as resection or repair, or in some cases meniscal transplantation); knee osteotomy to straighten your leg; ligament reconstruction to stabilise your knee (such as ACL reconstruction or ACL repair), in a few cases knee cartilage replacement surgery may be possible. In advanced arthritis, Mr Elson performs partial knee replacement and total knee replacement. Mr Elson has contributed to his field via medical research, with over 20 publications in the medical literature; the majority concerning knee surgery - particularly knee osteotomy and knee pain. This research has been presented on national and international stages. Mr Elson is the Chairman of the United Kingdom Knee Osteotomy Registry, established to further human understanding of knee osteotomy as a powerful treatment option. He is co-convener of the Northern Osteotomy Masterclass, which has become the largest cadaveric knee osteotomy course in the world, educating other surgeons on the safest and best techniques to perform knee osteotomy.
