About Dr Brian Halliday
Dr Brian Halliday is a leading consultantcardiologist at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital. He is an expert in the management of cardiomyopathy, genetic causes of cardiovascular disease, heart failure and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. He has a particular interest in novel and emerging therapies for cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Part of his practice includes the screening and assessment of patients’ relatives to more precisely determine their risk of developing potentially inheritable causes of heart disease. He performs and interprets cardiac MRIs and is frequently asked to provide a second opinion on complex scans. His NHS base is at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, recognised as one of the leading specialist heart and lung hospitals in Europe. He leads a research programme investigating new treatments and ways of improving the management of patients with cardiomyopathy at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, where he is a Clinical Associate Professor and also holds a prestigious British Heart Foundation (BHF) fellowship. He has a particular interest in leading clinical trials investigating new treatment approaches. Several of his studies have informed international treatment guidelines in the field of cardiomyopathy and heart failure, including the TRED-HF trial, published in The Lancet. He is regularly invited to speak at major meetings on cardiomyopathy and heart failure and holds several local, national, and international leadership roles. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, a member of the European Society of Cardiology Programme Committee, a non-voting member of the board of the British Society for Heart Failure, lead for the Heart Failure Task Force of the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, and a member of two European Heart Failure Association Committees. He is also a past Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal and a current member of the editorial board. Dr Halliday graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2008, where he was awarded the Murdoch Brown Silver Medal for Medicine. He was awarded a PhD for his work on dilated cardiomyopathy in 2018, as well as the National Heart and Lung Institute Prize for the best thesis. In 2021, he was awarded a grant from the European Society of Cardiology and completed a Master’s degree at the University of Oxford in 2023 in Clinical Trials. He plays an active role in the education of aspiring doctors, leading a module on the cardiovascular intercalated BSc at Imperial College London. He also supervises several resident doctors undertaking PhDs.
