About Mr Ata Jaffer

Mr Ata Jaffer is a highly accomplished consultant urological surgeon based in Manchester, with specialist expertise in treating urological cancers of the prostate, kidney, and bladder. He also has a particular interest in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and is one of the few urologists in northern England trained to perform laser prostate surgery using the HoLEP technique. He is also known for his technical precision in robotic prostatectomy, having adopted the anterior hood technique with excellent early continence outcomes. He practises at The Alexandra Hospital, Spire Manchester Hospital, and The Christie Private Care, and his NHS base is at Stepping Hill Hospital. Mr Jaffer undertook his urological training in Yorkshire, where he was awarded first prize by the Royal College of Surgeons for outstanding surgical skill. He was subsequently selected for a fellowship in robotic surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London, the UK’s first Vattikuti Foundation-accredited Robotic Surgery Institute. There, he became one of the first surgeons in Europe to perform robotic prostatectomy using both the Da Vinci and Medtronic HUGO systems. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Jaffer maintains a strong interest in surgical innovation. He has worked collaboratively with engineers at the University of Leeds and King’s College London to develop new tools for minimally invasive surgery. He is also a national surgical trainer and teaches UK trainees on advanced skills in robotics. To complement his technical expertise, he completed a mini-MBA in surgical innovation and leadership at King’s College London, reflecting his commitment to advancing the future of urological surgery.
