About Mr Ash Alam
Mr Ash Alam is a leading consultant gynaecologist with an active NHS practice based at Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital, Arrowe Park Hospital, within the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. Mr Alam has broad experience across general obstetrics and gynaecology, with particular expertise in gynaecological ultrasound and the management of heavy, irregular, and painful periods, pelvic pain, problem periods, and postmenopausal conditions. He is known for offering comprehensive one-stop clinics, where consultation, examination, ultrasound scanning, and treatment can often be provided in a single visit. He provides both medical and surgical care and is trained in a wide range of gynaecological procedures, including hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, dilatation and curettage, hysterectomy, ovarian cyst surgery, vaginal repair, fibroid management, and endometrial ablation. He actively supports the use of minimally invasive and modern alternatives to hysterectomy, with some procedures performed under local anaesthetic. His clinical services extend to the management of vaginal pain and dyspareunia, contraception, vulval biopsy, labial reduction surgery, early pregnancy and transvaginal ultrasound, cervical smears and biopsies, endometrial biopsy, prolapse management, and outpatient hysteroscopy. Where appropriate, he works closely with a multidisciplinary team, including psychosexual therapists and urologists through the Sexual Wellbeing Clinic. He also supports patients seeking advice around termination of pregnancy, offering counselling and ultrasound assessment when required. Mr Alam is fully trained in colposcopy and provides prompt assessment and treatment for abnormal cervical smear results in his private practice. Spire Murrayfield Hospital has dedicated colposcopy facilities where he manages women with abnormal smears. He is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy, and the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy.
