Consultant Peripheral Nerve Surgeon
About Miss Anna Panagiotidou
Miss Anna Panagiotidou is a leading consultant peripheral nerve surgeon in London and clinical lead of the Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. She specialises exclusively in the diagnosis and surgical management of complex peripheral nerve disorders, including traumatic brachial plexus injuries, obstetric brachial plexus palsy, thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel surgery, nerve compression syndromes, peripheral nerve tumours and complex nerve reconstruction of the upper and lower limb. After qualifying from University College London (UCL), with an MBBS and intercalated BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology, she completed higher specialist training in trauma and orthopaedics on the UCL rotation. During this time, she developed a focused subspecialist interest in peripheral nerve injury and complex limb trauma involving nerve damage. She was awarded a PhD in orthopaedic surgery from UCL in 2018 and holds fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Trauma and Orthopaedics. Miss Panagiotidou undertook advanced fellowship training at the Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, one of the UK's highest-volume centres for complex nerve injury and brachial plexus reconstruction. She subsequently joined the consultant team and now leads the service as clinical lead, overseeing clinical delivery and multidisciplinary collaboration while maintaining a high-volume specialist surgical practice. She contributes to the national development of peripheral nerve and brachial plexus services as a member of the NHS England specialised services commissioning work group, helping to refine national treatment pathways. Her research is closely aligned with her clinical practice, collaborating with the UCL Centre for Nerve Engineering and the UCL Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases. She has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents on nerve injury and reconstruction at national and international meetings. Miss Panagiotidou is an invited faculty member on British Elbow and Shoulder Society instructional courses and remains committed to education and mentorship. Her practice is defined by meticulous assessment, technical precision and a collaborative, patient-centred approach to complex and often life-changing nerve conditions. She consults privately at The Wellington Hospital in London and practises at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
