About Mr Andrew Murphy
Mr Andrew Murphy is a leading orthopaedic surgeon with special expertise in shoulder, elbow, knee and trauma surgery. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Bristol in 1992 and completed his surgical training across Bristol, Bath and Plymouth. He went on to pursue higher specialist training in orthopaedics and trauma surgery at Southampton University Hospital and the Wessex region. Mr Murphy consults privately at Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital. He later completed two advanced fellowships focusing on shoulder, elbow and trauma surgery at leading UK centres in Exeter and Southampton. He was awarded prestigious travelling fellowships by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the British Shoulder & Elbow Society. In 2005, he earned a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine from University College London, and is a foundation member of the UK Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine. In addition to his NHS work, Mr Murphy has an extensive background in elite sports medicine. He has served as Team Physician for the UK Triathlon team and Medical Director at the 2002 Commonwealth Games Triathlon. He was also honorary orthopaedic and sports injury consultant to Plymouth Argyle FC, Plymouth Albion RFC and Plymouth Raiders basketball team.
