About Mr Altan Omer
Mr Altan Omer is a consultant urologist at The Meriden Hospital in Coventry. He specialises in prostate cancer, bladder cancer, benign prostate enlargement, urinary tract reconstruction, urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction, and urogenital disorders. He is deft at robotic surgery. Mr Omer qualified in 2010 from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania. He underwent speciality urology training at The Institute of Nephrology and Renal Transplant at Fundeni Clinical Institute in Romania, and afterwards in 2016, he became a fellow of the European Board of Urology. Upon moving to the UK, he completed two fellowships, one at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage and the other at Oxford University Hospital, in robotic surgery. He was appointed consultant in 2019. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Omer is an author of articles and book chapters, and has presented at congresses concerning early detection of prostate cancer, bladder cancer and robotic surgery. At the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, his NHS post, he led the establishment of the local anaesthetic transperineal biopsy service (LATP), as well as the led the introduction of the robot-assisted radical cystectomy. His research portfolio includes clinical trials. He is a Clinical Champion for Prostate Cancer UK, and is a leader of the Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS).
