About Mr Alex Woollard

Mr Alex Woollard is a highly skilled plastic surgeon with extensive training and experience in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He trained at Southampton Medical School and completed his plastic surgical training in London. Since 2016, Mr Woollard has served as a consultant plastic surgeon at The Royal Free London NHS Trust and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH). He leads the soft tissue reconstruction team at RNOH, specializing in sarcoma, complex arthroplasty, spine surgeries, and spinal injuries. Additionally, he is the lead surgeon for the facial palsy service at The Royal Free. Mr Woollard’s clinical expertise spans a wide range of surgical specialties, including cancer surgery, aesthetic surgery, and reconstructive surgery. His special interests include nerve regeneration, and he is internationally recognized for his work in targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) and regenerative peripheral nerve interface (RPNI). His approach is focused on delivering both functional and aesthetic outcomes, especially after oncological resections or traumatic injuries. He works collaboratively with other surgical specialties to provide comprehensive care in complex reconstructions. In addition to his clinical work, Mr Woollard is committed to advancing the field through research. He completed his PhD research on cranial nerve regeneration at Harvard University’s Center for Brain Science. As the chair of the Cosmetic Practice Standards Authority (CPSA), he also strives to improve the standards of non-surgical cosmetic practices in the UK. Mr Woollard is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS Plast) and is actively involved in several professional societies, including the British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Sarcoma Group (BSG).
