About Mr Alex Shearman

Mr Alex Shearman is a distinguished consultant orthopaedic knee surgeon based in Oxford. His areas of expertise include osteoarthritis, meniscal repair, osteotomy and patellofemoral instability. He is highly proficient in ligament reconstruction and cartilage repair, as well as partial, robotic-assisted and revision knee replacement. Mr Shearman is part of the renowned Oxford Knee Group. With over 15 years’ experience, he also practises for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and previously held a position at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. Mr Shearman treats both adult and paediatric patients. Mr Shearman obtained his MBBS degree from Imperial College London in 2008, along with an intercalated BSc in Medical Sciences with Surgery and Anaesthesia. He undertook his higher specialist training on the North West Thames rotation, before completing five prestigious fellowships in lower limb surgery, arthroplasty, knee and major trauma. In 2019, Mr Shearman was awarded the ESSKA international arthroscopy travelling fellowship, allowing him to further his expertise in Brandenburg, Germany. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Shearman is actively involved in research. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications and contributed to educational book chapters across a spectrum of knee-related topics. He participates in several multicentre NIHR-funded studies aimed at improving treatment for knee problems and is also an active member of various professional organisations, including the British Association for Surgery of the Knee.
