About Professor Ajay Malviya
Professor Ajay Malviya serves as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in the North East of England, as well as at Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital. He undertook his medical training within the Northern Deanery and went on to complete advanced fellowships focused on hip preservation and joint replacement in Cambridge, London, and Switzerland. His areas of expertise include periacetabular osteotomy for the treatment of hip dysplasia, performed via a minimally invasive technique, and hip arthroscopy to address femoroacetabular impingement. His clinical work frequently involves the management of sports-related hip injuries, and he has contributed extensively to academic research, with numerous publications and presentations on the outcomes of hip arthroscopy and pelvic osteotomy in both athletes and the wider population. Professor Malviya holds a PhD investigating the role of arthroscopy in managing femoroacetabular impingement. While his clinical focus is on preserving the natural hip joint whenever possible, he also has considerable experience in hip and knee replacement procedures, particularly for younger patients when required. Annually, he performs over 150 hip and knee replacements, around 150 hip arthroscopies, and upwards of 75 pelvic osteotomies for hip dysplasia. This volume positions him as the most active hip preservation surgeon in the UK.
