Endocarditis
Endocarditis refers to the inflammation of the heart's inner lining, often due to an infection. While it is uncommon, it can be very serious and requires immediate medical attention. This condition typically arises when bacteria or fungi enter the bloodstream, often through the mouth or skin, and make their way to the heart. Such entry points can include dental work or even minor cuts and scrapes. Although anyone can develop endocarditis, it occurs more frequently in men and those aged over 50.
