Cuts and grazes

Most cuts and scrapes can be managed at home and typically begin to heal within a few days. However, certain wounds might require attention from a medical professional if there is a chance of infection or if the injury is more serious. You can care for a cut or scrape by first stopping any bleeding, then cleaning the area, and finally covering it with a plaster or dressing to help prevent infection. If you're experiencing pain, you can take pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (but avoid giving aspirin to children under 16). Once the bleeding has stopped, you can clean a minor wound and apply a plaster or dressing.
